101 in 1001

I’ve decided to take up the “Day Zero Project“. I am the list queen. I make lists for everything. I have lists of things I need to do each day, lists of things I want to accomplish in the next six months and lists of things that I want to accomplish in the next year, and so on. And I am a fan of putting the most mundane things on a list just so I can cross it off later. My husband says “do you really need to put “take a shower” on your list? Do you need to be reminded?” No, I don’t need to be reminded to take a shower but it does give me a sense of accomplishment to cross things off.

So, this is the perfect challenge for me.

I like the idea of this challenge because it gives you a set time period to do things instead of just an ambiguous “I want to get this done someday” time frame. My plan is to try to blog about things on the list as I get them done. So, in the spirit of that, things on the list that are:

In the same, normal type as the rest of the website are things that I haven’t started.

Items in this color have been completed.

Items in this color are in progress.

If an item is crossed out, I am no longer attempting it or using an alternate.
If there is a link, I have written a post about it. Follow the link to read about it.
The Challenge:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple challenges such as New Year’s resolutions or a ‘Bucket List’. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities.
